The Playground – What’s going on? What’s it going to look like? When can we have it?!

Things are moving on apace with the new playground. You may well have noticed the activity next to Croker’s Pub as groundworks continue. No doubt you’ve also noticed that fundraising has stepped up another gear, with ‘Pennies for the Playground’ jars in shops locally (it’s not too late to contribute!), church-gate collections and a raffle with some great prizes up for grabs, including Heineken Cup tickets, a four-ball at the K Club, Afternoon Tea at Adare Manor…and more! If you’d like to be in with a chance to win, contact any Committee member (Fr Simon Sleeman, Una McInerney, Aimee Byrnes, Emma O’Flynn, Kathryn Buckley, John Buckley, Bridget Hayes) who can sell you tickets for as little as €5 each.

The Playground Committee have put plenty of thought and research into the design of the playground. Best practice studies from other communities were examined; parents and children were canvassed for their opinions as to what they would like in the playground; a number of playground companies were asked to submit proposals. Here are some sketches of the resulting design.

…And the great news is that it’s under construction as we write. Watch this space (or the site itself!) for more…
