Well, our trip was a wonderful success. Ten of us travelled by bus to Dublin airport whilst 2 others made their own way and our local French gal Noelle used the opportunity to meet siblings and hook up with us as well. The French hospitality in Evry-Gregy sur Yerres was “superbe”. We were hosted by a number of families and taken to Ville de Brie Comte Robert the first evening followed by the mayoral reception in Evry-Gregy then dinner at a number of our hosts`homes. The next day, a trip to the Medieval Cité of Provins, approximately 60km northeast. We had a lovely French guide, who did a more than adequate job given her comment of not having given an English tour in more than a year! A remarkable and most interesting place which any photos do not do justice. Of particular interest was the amazing indoor market area as well as the Souterrain, a chalk tunnel of many km.long(no pix were allowed). Later that night,we had a French buffet along with singing and dancing. Next day, a trip to the outer arrondisements of Paris, where one could walk along the Canal de St.Martin to the Parc de la Villette, a vast park encompassing an open air cinema, music academy and orchestral area, wonderful children amusements and play areas as well as a marvelous Science Museum and Planetarium. Of course, there were areas to picnic and relax also. Later, by the Canal St.Martin, all kinds of water and boating activities were going on. Afterwards, we went on a canal cruise. This canal was built in the early 1800`s to help provide fresh water to the Parisians, and later grain and other goods. The best part of this trip was the cool air under the enclosed part of the cruise. Rather eerily beautiful. After an opportunity to view parts of Paris by foot/or métro,a wonderful dinner at an Art Deco restaurant followed as well as a Paris by nite bus tour. All in all, a wonderful success for our respective groups. Many thanks to our friends from Evry-Gregy sur Yerres ! We look forward to our next plans…
